Making my son doublets has turned out to be more of a sewing project than I bargained for. I have redrafted the pattern several times and made several mock ups. By the end of this project I will have 3 sets of patterns. The Tudor Child book does not use American children for their models.
On the plus side my son seems happy to wear a doublet that looks like his fathers’. He will happily unbutton the top three buttons and pull the garment over his head, this is not the way I anticipated the garment to be treated. His doublets should have sleeves but Virginia summers are too warm. Even the Jamestowne company learned to send settlers in the fall, so the folks could become accustomed to our climate before the summer hit.
